Yoga Teacher Training – Day 3 Recap | Six hours of yoga before?

I completed day 3 of yoga instructor class and you read that right.  Our class completed about 6 hours of yoga today.  We worked on our new sequences, Sun Salutation A and Sun Salutation C.  Then we had to practice it about 20 times.  Then we had to teach it to our classmates.  This entire process went on for about 5 hours.  At the end of the day, our instructor told us that we would be joining one of her yoga classes for the day.  I (erroneously) assumed that it would be an all levels class…it wasn’t.  After class I found out that it was for intermediate yogis.

Anywho…besides the fact that I worked up a sweat within the first 3 minutes, I learned about a new pose, Crow. (I had heard other students in my yoga training class talking about this pose before).

For anyone who doesn’t know what the crow pose is, it’s when you balance yourself by planting your palms on the ground, resting your shins against your arms, and lifting your feet up.  I was NOT ready.  I kept looking around hoping that someone else was struggling the way I was but nope, it was just me.

We also had to talk a little about what yoga means to us and what kind of yoga instructor do we want to be.  For me, yoga represents calm, peace, centering.  It’s about combining the control of your physical body, your mind, and your breathing.  Once I get to the point that I am instructing, I want to meet people where they are.  I want to help them on their yoga journey in whatever capacity needed.

I find myself writing every thought, good and bad, in my yoga journal.  This is weird because going into the training, I swore I would never be one of those people who journal but now here I am.  I also went home after day 3’s class and I taped tons of positive affirmations onto my bathroom mirror and my dresser mirror.  The biggest thing I want to do is to stay open minded and keep a positive attitude throughout the process.  I’m hoping that journaling and the positive affirmations help to keep me focused.  My current thought is that I want to be better today than I was yesterday in all areas of my life.
