Tonight was our first day back to yoga teacher training in almost 3 weeks. I was a bit nervous returning because I felt like I haven’t had a chance to practice as much as I should have. Things have been crazy between home and work. To get my mind together, I took a yoga class earlier in the day before my teacher training class started. After the class, I was still a bit anxious however once I saw my fellow students, I immediately felt at ease.
It’s difficult to explain, but going through yoga instructor training with a group of people forms a special kind of bond. One that some people (like myself) rarely have the opportunity to form. Everyone in the class is always so welcoming and positive and honestly, they just emit good vibes.
Our instructor went over different types of warm-ups that we can incorporate into our own practice. I identified most with the seated twist pose which starts with you sitting with criss-crossed legs on your mat. The instructor also went over ways to customize a Surya. (A Surya is generally the salutations performed after the warm-up but before you go straight into asanas).
I learned a lot about various poses that can be incorporated into a Surya. After we practiced for a while, we were tasked with creating our own Surya. This is the part that I tend to lack confidence in because I’m not the most creative person. However, I put together a sequence and prayed we wouldn’t have to show the class what we created. (We didn’t).
Now that class is over, I plan on going home and practicing my warm-up teach back that I have to lead the class tomorrow. This is such unfamiliar waters for me but I’m certainly up to the challenge!
I’m so happy I found your post and look forward to going back and reading more! I am planning on doing yoga instructor training early next year and would love to know what to expect. I love what you said about forming bonds with the people in your class. I live in a big city so it’s so hard for me to do this. I am looking forward to making some friends through this process =) Thank you for sharing your experience!
Inspirational post. I’m trying to get into yoga aa part of my life audit .
I just love yoga and how it frees your body and mind. Plus the benefits it provides the body.
Congratulations! What a cool experience, being able to take your yoga practice to another level and learn how to teach others. Good luck leading the class tomorrow 🙂
I’m nearly 39 and I’ve never done yoga before. I used to be very active and flexible as a child, doing acrobatic gymnastics for 4 years, but then I had a huge gap in sports until I was past my 30’s. This year in March I’ve tried yoga for the first time in my life and it was a huge turning point in my fitness experience, and not only…
