My Experience with Hot Yoga today

So I went to a random yoga class today.  I actually signed up for it last week at the yoga studio where I’m taking my yoga instructor certification classes.  Well, I rushed to get there from work today (that’s a different story) and once I arrived, I realized that I had clearly forgotten that it was a hot yoga class.  I actually changed on the way to the class (don’t ask) so I came to the class with 2 shirts on.

The best thing about it is that I actually loved the class.  I learned a few new poses like Goddess and Eagle.  The teacher was cool and I learned a lot from her giving cues.  It made me think about what cues I’d like to give when I finally conduct my own classes.  (I’m a long way away from that).   I kept looking around at everyone else to see how they were doing.  Does anyone else do that?

I hate when I do that because I start to compare myself to other people and we really shouldn’t do that.  It brings about negative thoughts and at the end of the day, my yoga journey is my own.  It’s hard to shake that feeling though when we live in a society where we are constantly competing against each other for everything.

A nice touch at the end of the class – Everyone was sitting with their eyes closed and when the instructor told us to open our eyes, there was a warm washcloth on everyone’s mat so we could lay back and cover our head and eyes.  I feel asleep at least 2 times.

I left the class feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.  On the way back to my car, I saw this cool little Asian collaborative restaurant space nearby.  Everything on all of the menus sounded delicious.  The next time I take a class at this studio, I’m going to be sure to stop by the space and grab a bao and some ramen.  They even had vegetarian ramen which my daughter will be ecstatic about.  (She’s a vegetarian).
